Woman Returns to FlexJobs, Finds Success Again
The days of a “job for life” are pretty much in the rearview mirror. It’s now far more common for people to job hop, and even change career fields multiple times throughout their life. That said, even though people may change jobs or fields, that doesn’t mean they don’t want stability in their work life. Even when employees want a flexible job, they also still want one that’s reliable and balanced.
That’s exactly why Laura R. came back to FlexJobs when she was on the hunt for a job in a new field. She needed a job she could count on, but that was also flexible and remote. Thanks to her previous membership, Laura had a lot of experience with FlexJobs and knows it can make a major difference for job seekers.
Making a Career Change
Laura found her previous job on FlexJobs four years ago but left it to focus on her family’s medical issues. After a few months, she was able to return to work. However, instead of returning to the same field, Laura wanted to try something new. “I really wanted to try something different,” she said, “but still [wanted] a work-from-home position.”
Even though Laura knew she wanted to work in a different field, the job she found came as a surprise. “The new job I found on FlexJobs was not something I had initially been searching for.” But, there was a part of the job description that appealed to Laura. “I applied because the schedule…really fit my needs and allowed me to balance mom-life and work.”
Now she is a full-time, remote customer service rep living in Massachusetts while working for Side Real Estate, which is located in San Francisco! For Laura, being able to work flexibly and remotely lets her dreams come true. “As with most mothers, being able to raise your children…while being able to financially provide for them is the main goal. A flexible job allows for that dream to be a reality.”
FlexJobs Membership Worth the Cost
Laura thinks that paying for a FlexJobs membership is worth it and provides mathematical proof. “Do the math… 1-2 months of membership cost to find work four months sooner, or no income for an additional four months not using the site.” Paying for a FlexJobs membership “cuts your unemployed time down significantly because these are serious employers looking for people who are serious about working where they would pay for a membership.”
Not only does a FlexJobs membership help cut down how long you’re unemployed, a paid membership also gives you access to information you can’t always find on free sites. “One thing that is great with FlexJobs that you do not always see on other sites,” Laura adds, “is the amount of information provided as far as salary and schedules. This allows you to focus on gearing your resume to a handful of ideal positions, rather than sending out a generic resume to hundreds of jobs that do not pan out.”
A Dream Job and a New Perspective
Even though Laura had experience with FlexJobs, she “had no idea so many (remote and flexible) jobs were out there.” And, more importantly, some companies she never would have thought of as “remote” offer plenty of remote options.
She loves the fact that “the quality of employers…on FlexJobs are those where you can grow with a company, and it becomes a career.” And that’s exactly what Laura has found with Side Real Estate. “The jobs I found have changed my perspective.… It is not just a job but a career.”
