New year, new career? You’ve got this…

The start of a new year is an excellent time to start fresh – especially for anyone looking for a new role. And the good news is, if you’re planning a career change, looking for a part-time job that fits around other commitments, or you just want to step up the career ladder, you’re in luck, with a whole host of companies hiring staff in preparation for a busy year ahead.

To help you reach your career goals in 2022, here are five great companies that are hiring in January.

Are you ready to earn some dough? Try Prezzo.

Prezzo is one of the UK and Ireland’s largest Italian food-based restaurant chains. The first restaurant opened on Oxford Street, London, in November 2000. Today it employs over 3,300 people in front of house roles like bar staff and waiters and waitresses, and back of house roles such as chefs and sous chefs.

To bring character to their restaurants, Prezzo tends to pick old buildings of architectural value (like banks and cinemas) to convert into restaurants. Looking for another fun fact? Prezzo translates to ‘price’ in Italian.

OK, so it might not necessarily help you get the job. But at least you’ll have an interesting way to keep the conversation going when you’re waiting for your starter the next time you visit.

Roles in demand:

Three things you might know about Prezzo:

  • There are over 150 Prezzo restaurants in the UK
  • Prezzo will turn 22 in 2022
  • For every Tropicana pizza sold, Prezzo donates 25p to the children’s charity Fight for Life

Location: Throughout the UK

It has around 3.3 million customers across 150 UK branches and banking with the company online, and the Virgin Money umbrella also includes the likes of Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank.

Virgin Money sets out to do things differently from other ‘traditional banks’. This is reflected in its stores – which are open, bright and welcoming (you can even enjoy a cuppa in them) –  and when it comes to its staff too. It employs ‘hosts’, instead of assistants, placing a precedence on building relationships with its customers and providing excellent customer service.

B&M Retail

OK, so you may know that B&M stands for Bargain Madness (and you can certainly find some real bargains in its stores). However, originally B&M was called Billington & Mayman, after Malcolm Billington, the man who started the business. Which we admit, is a little less  catchy.

The first B&M store was opened in Blackpool in 1978. Today there are over 680 stores spread across the UK employing over 35,000 people. B&M classes itself as a variety retailer because of the range of branded and own-brand products it sells at reasonable prices. Its product range includes food and drink, stationary, haircare and beauty and home and garden furnishings and more.

So, if you want to start a career in retail or if you’re looking to step your retail career, B&M could be the place to do it.

Roles in demand:

Three things you might not know about B&M:

  • Around 2.7 million customer transactions are completed each week at B&M
  • Its website attracts over a million visitors a month – even though you can’t actually buy from it!
  • One of their best selling products is wallpaper (now you know)

Location: Throughout the UK
