After 20 years in corporate office settings, Richard M. realized he never really “fit in.” After a medical condition required an amputation, he found himself unable to get around like he used to.

However, thanks to a remote job, Richard can supplement his income and continue working as long as he wants.

Career Extension and Passion Projects

Because of his medical situation, Richard was unable to commute as easily as he once could. However, working from home has allowed him to extend his career and pursue the opportunities he truly wants. He says, “At this point in my life, I’m not really looking for a career.”

Working from home part-time allows him to choose the schedule that works best for him, instead of being given a schedule by his employer. Richard chooses “the schedule I prefer, as well as the range of hours I want to work, while not having to travel to and from a job.” This flexibility gives Richard the time to “pursue the other things I enjoy and totally immerse myself in the areas that have been my passion.”

Membership Has Its Benefits

As a FlexJobs member, Richard found a job with TTEC as a customer service rep. However, he’s also worked with a nonprofit that helps disabled and elderly job seekers find work. Because he saw the benefits that FlexJobs offers members, he started recommending FlexJobs memberships to his network.

There are so many disabled adults who feel like they can no longer earn or contribute. Work-at-home positions can really enable them to begin to enjoy life again.” And, Richard adds that many of those people can take full advantage of a FlexJobs membership to help them in their job search.

Remote Work Works!

Remote work isn’t just for people who hate cube life and commuting. It’s for anyone and everyone who can and wants to work, like Richard. Flexible and remote work, even if it’s part-time, can extend careers for years, and help almost anyone with a disability earn an income.
