Remote Job Works Around Woman’s Medical Treatment Schedule
People look for flexible and remote jobs for a variety of reasons. It might be to spend more time with family, have more time for hobbies, or to avoid a long commute. But sometimes, people need flexible job arrangements because a standard job doesn’t fit into their life.
When Caitlin D. was diagnosed with cancer, she knew her job wouldn’t fit in with her new circumstances. “I knew that I wouldn’t be able to commute over an hour each way every day during treatment and still be able to provide for myself.” Caitlin joined FlexJobs to find a remote job that would not only make it easier to get the treatment she needed, but also allow her to work and build her career.
Managing Cancer with a Remote Job
Caitlin didn’t just want a job. She also wanted a career that she could advance in. With employment listings in over 50 career categories, Caitlin started searching FlexJobs. “At first, I wasn’t finding as many roles that would help me in my career progression,” she recalls. But with perseverance, Caitlin connected with the job of her dreams.
Working remotely for Lescault and Walderman as a Staff Accountant, Caitlin found a new job and a new perspective on her career. “A flexible job has made it possible for me to still have a career while going through cancer treatment.” And she knows that if her circumstances change, working remotely will allow her to continue pursuing her goals. “I can use my accounting education and CPA. … And if my health changes, I know it won’t impact my life as much … [like] when I had a job that was not remote.”
Finding a remote job can take time. Caitlin advises other job seekers to be patient while they search for a flexible job—and to join FlexJobs. “It is one of the best places to look for a remote job. It can take some time, but things are changing, and more and more companies are offering remote jobs.”
Thanks to her remote and flexible job, Caitlin achieved some of her personal goals. “I was able to work [during] treatment only because I had a flexible job. It allowed me and my fiancé to buy the house out of state and … start the life that we always hoped for.”
And that’s only the beginning for Caitlin. With her career and health on track, she sees all the professional and personal possibilities a flexible job offers. A remote job “will allow me to be there for my family, have the career I want, [but] have way less stress and enjoy life.”
Now, Caitlin knows that no matter what life has in store for her, anything is possible.
“FlexJobs made it possible to have the life my fiancé and I always dreamed of. I can work wherever I want as long as I have internet and my laptop. The possibilities are endless now that I am 100% remote!”
