We caught up with Robin Mosley-Vaughan, an Illinois-based FlexJobs Career Coach, about her career coaching experience and specialties.

Why do you enjoy being a career coach?

I love being a career coach because I get a lot of satisfaction out of helping people. I love demystifying the world of work and supporting people through their journey. It’s also great to speak with people from all over the world. In many ways this position allows me to meet people that I would never come across in my everyday life.

What’s your educational and career background?

I have a B.A. in Japanese, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, a PhD in Educational Policy Studies, and I am getting my final degree, a MA in Multimedia Journalism.

Do you have any specialties or types of clients you particularly enjoy working with?

I love working with creatives! However, my favorite clients are those in the writing, editing, and proofreading industries. I’ve come across a lot of education/PhD clients who are transitioning to life outside of academia, and I’ve really enjoyed supporting them as well. While I haven’t come across language clients yet, I would love to work with them too.

What’s one thing you want every job seeker to know?

Finding a quality position takes time. Be kind to yourself.

Why do you think career coaching is helpful for job seekers?

It takes the pressure off job seekers to figure things out on their own. Often job seekers think they have to navigate the job search process alone and that couldn’t be further from the truth. What quality career coaching services provide is clarity, confidence, and insight into what’s been working and what should be reevaluated as you navigate your job search journey.

What’s one thing you can’t live without in your home office?
